Wes Wilson Posters
Signage & Environmental Graphics
Psychedelic poster design for an imagined exhibition to be held at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
The Objective
Create a poster series reflective of American artist Wes Wilsons' world renowned psychedelic poster work for hypothetical exhibition to be held at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
The Solution
Encapsulate the aesthetic created by Wilson that is now synonymous with the peace movement, the psychedelic era and the 1960s. Embrace richly saturated colours, glaring contrast, strongly symmetrical composition, rubber-like distortions, and the bizarre iconography that are hallmarks of the San Francisco psychedelic poster art style.
"His style, inspired by the Art Nouveau masters, took what was understood about promotional art and turned it inside-out. Nearly cryptic letters filled every available space, lines melted into lines, colors clashed... and the psychedelic poster was born. The love of art and nature eventually carried Wes away to the beautiful Ozarks foothills where he continued to create art until his death on January 24, 2020. "
